Susan credits painting en plein air (on location, in the open air) as speeding her development in painting.  Working mainly in oil, she seeks out subjects that display great light and shadow, often preferring structures in historic neighborhoods, older homes and even interesting alley ways.  By painting on location, she feels that directly observing colors is far more helpful than interpreting the light from photos.  The people she meets while painting are an added bonus! Participating in regional plein air competitions is one of her favorite artistic pastimes.

Susan is a participating member of The American Impressionist Society, the Ohio Plein Air Society, Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, and the Athena Art Society of Toledo.
