Creating Skyscapes en Plein Air

Class level: Basic to intermediate

This 1-day workshop will cover the basics of Creating Skyscapes en Plein Air .  Join Mary Hertler Tallman, GLPSPSA to broaden your art skills with 10 steps for successful landscapes.

During this workshop, we will have live demos, followed by plenty of painting time and individual attention at the easel. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a better understanding of painting techniques and how to create a successful skyscape that tells a story and evokes an emotional response in the viewer.  Bring a lunch 🙂

Supply List suggestions: (You can choose a different medium but the class will be taught in pastel)

Mary Hertler Tallman’s works in pastel are created as the 19th century French Impressionist painters first described “en plein air”. Her formal training includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts from Spring Arbor University. Her award-winning works have earned her “Signature Status” in the Great Lakes Pastel Society, as well as “Signature Member” status in the Pastel Society of America. In 2024 as well as 2023, her work has been recognized by the prestigious Pastel Journal Magazine’s “Annual Pastel 100 Competition” where over 2,000 artists competed internationally to be included in the top 100. Additionally in 2023 she was awarded “Best in Show”, “Second Place” and “Purchase Award” at the 2023 “Sylvania Plein Air Festival”; “Second Place – Small Wonders” at the nationally acclaimed “Paint Grand Traverse 2023”.  Her accolades also include: “Ampersand Art Supply Award” from the Chicago Pastel Society 2023 Ninth Biennial National Juried Exhibition; “Best in Show” at the Clinton County statewide plein air event, and “Second Place”, “Merit Award” and “Honorable Mention” at the “2023 Paint Tawas
